Explorer Post 475 is a youth-based program designed to introduce students 14-18 to the world of emergency services, while developing skills like teamwork, leadership and responsibility. The Post is comprised of motivated individuals who share in interest in firefighting, emergency medical services, or simply community service in general. Through structured training, mentoring from firefighters, and real-world experiences, Post 475 Explorers gain an education second to none. They're provided an insight into the demands, discipline and pride that build the fire service.
Explorers participate in hands-on training that mirrors what our professional firefighters experience. This includes but is not limited to; fire behavior, equipment use, hose line advancement, search and rescue and first aid. They also are trained in communication, problem solving, and leadership during drills and training nights. Post 475 emphasizes professionalism, accountability, and respect. All in an effort to prepare Explorers for potential careers paths in the emergency services, but also success in work, school and life.
Beyond training, Explorer Post 475 plays a vital role in supporting the the fire department and the community we serve. Explorers often assist with department events, public education, outreach and ceremonies. Explorers develop a strong sense of camaraderie and family as they work alongside each other to complete shared goals. For many, the Post has, and will continue, to serve as a starting point for future careers as firefighters, EMT's, police officers, or other public safety professionals. However, the most recognized benefit of Explorer Post 475 is the lifelong friendships, brotherhood/sisterhood, and commitment to community service that comes from time in the Post.
We inspire and provide the materials young people need to serve their communities as tomorrow’s emergency service leaders. Through training, teamwork, and mentorship, we don't build character, we reveal it.
